Tell us about your childhood and where you grew up

I grew up an only child raised by a single mother in Sacramento, CA. My mom worked hard and I would not consider us poor, but there definitely was not a lot of money to go around. I loved sports growing up, always had a lot of friends to hang out with, and was considered intelligent by my teachers, but I did not have good study habits which reflected in my grades. Once enrolled in junior college, where I continued to play sports, I realized that in order to make something of myself I needed to focus on my studies and get a degree.

How did you get started as an entrepreneur?

After graduating college, one of my high school friends was making his way as a mortgage loan officer and he introduced me to the business. I never really wanted to work for someone and being a fully commissioned loan officer seemed like a great way to apply my people skills while being my own boss.

What is one business lesson you would tell a startup founder?

Concentrate on customer service and the reward will follow.
