Artist and Curator Nakia Booker is a cultural advocate that believes that a collaborative connection through art can be an outlet completely unbound by time or space. Through her mission, Nakia has created a space to find comfort and celebrate black art through MMXX: The Black Artivism Capsule. A curated collection of art made by Black creatives during the 2020 pandemic.

Tell us about your childhood and where you grew up

I’m from Shreveport, Louisiana. Growing up, my mom had me in many activities. I was a Girl Scout for 13 years, a ballerina, and in several school clubs. Doing all of those things made me the social butterfly I am today.

How did you get started as an entrepreneur?

I’m an art, music, and fashion enthusiast and I received a divine download in 2020 to publish this book. And then my journey began to reach out to artists to start the creation of this project.
