How I Founded My Company, A Founder’s Story with Joseph Puglisi
I am Joseph Puglisi, a relationship manager with years of experience in the dating and business industry. I also graduated from James Cook University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. I worked at Equinox international as an online marketing specialist for 5 years before starting my company. What has always inspired me was my need to be the best version of myself and my skills.
Tell us about your childhood and where you grew up
I grew up in Denver, then we started to move around a lot because of my father’s work. I didn’t stay much in one place, so my friends were almost temporary. However, I made sure I learned something valuable and made meaningful friendships everywhere we relocated. It was tough, but I didn’t have much of a choice till I grew older and carved my path.
How did you get started as an entrepreneur?
While starting up my company, I was using it as a side hustle while working for another company. It wasn’t an easy task, and I still needed time to work on myself, earn a lot more money to fund my expenses, and also build my brand on the side. There were times I tried taking on two jobs, but I was fired in the second month because I couldn’t cope and I was also always sleeping on my first job. I became unproductive and broke down. My friends and family helped me and supported me when they understood what I was going through. When I finally gathered enough to make the money to start up my own company, I quit. I thought that was going to be it, but it was incredibly rough. Doing everything by myself because I couldn’t afford to pay employees, and I also had to support my family. I almost gave up sometimes because I felt like I was wasting my time and people weren’t going to take me seriously. However, through perseverance, I scaled through. I began earning enough to take care of myself and my family, then I employed two people first. From there, I began growing my company and increasing my online and physical presence
What is one business lesson you would tell a startup founder?
One business lesson I would tell you as a startup founder would be that consistency in the right direction leads to sustenance in business. The moment you decide to give up, you may be so close to a breakthrough. Giving up should not be an option, as long as you believe in yourself and what you have to offer.
